Dinner in Ankara Visitor

History

The first Dinner in Ankara was held in 2017 as a celebration for the host, Jumoke Dada, a Nigerian-American entrepreneur of the Yoruba tribe. Due to the response to the initial dinner, and the passing of her father – a man who loved to bring people together, she continued to host dinners to show the beauty of African culture through food, fashion, and the arts while sharing about her father’s legacy. Dinners have been held in Philadelphia, PA, and Lagos, Nigeria.

The first African Eats & Afrobeats cooking class was held in April 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic when people around the world were being quarantined for an unknown amount of time. As a result of the uncertainty of the live events and the focus on survival, the idea for virtual cooking classes were born. The goal was to create a space where people could feel connected, learn how to cook, and enjoy African music despite the time. The series of classes included Jollof Rice 101, Puff Puff 101, and Meat Pies 101.
